Beyond Plastics launched our Local Groups and Affiliates program in February 2022 with the goal of building a stronger, more vibrant grassroots movement to tackle plastic pollution here in the United States. We are excited to announce that we have just hit a major milestone - we are now 100 Local Groups and Affiliates strong.💪🏽💪🏼💪🏿 What a great way to celebrate Plastic Free July!
From hosting documentary screenings and discussion panels, to organizing constituent meetings with elected officials, to educating them about plastic pollution and advocating for plastics reduction solutions, to getting plastics reduction legislation passed (more on that soon!), to working with restaurant managers and dry cleaning business owners to reduce single-use plastics, to highlighting and applauding local businesses doing the right thing, to preventing the installation of artificial turf playing fields, and more, Beyond Plastic Local Groups and Affiliate groups have been busy shifting the conversation all across the nation!
The power of the grassroots is MIGHTY and we want to say THANK YOU to all of the change-makers who have joined our expanding network! The plastics industry may have deep pockets, but we have the numbers and heart and we can’t stop now!
As our president, Judith Enck recently discussed in this guest blog post for Plastic Free July, the way we will solve the plastic pollution crisis is by building the grassroots movement. This is just the beginning and we need your help to spread the word and continue to build a strong, effective grassroots movement to end plastic pollution.

If you are a part of an environmental or waste reduction non-profit organization that wants to start working on plastics reduction or deepen your existing work on plastics reduction, please consider joining our network as an affiliate. If you look at the map and don’t see a group in your area, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about starting your own Beyond Plastics Local Group.
Whether you would be joining as an affiliate or starting a local group, we provide training and support to all the organizations and leaders in our network.
