Chemical Recycling: A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

This webinar has passed but you can click here to view the recording or watch it below.

Plastics recycling has been a failure, achieving a meager 8.5% recycling rate. With more than 15 million metric tons of plastic entering our oceans each year, it’s clear that we’ve got a problem on our hands. Yet, rather than reducing plastic production, the petrochemical industry is now promoting “chemical recycling” as a solution. Unfortunately, chemical recycling is an expensive, energy-intensive, and highly polluting technology that will not solve our plastic pollution crisis but will hasten climate change and threaten our environment and health.

New Jersey Assemblymember John McKeon has just introduced Assembly Bill 5803 to exempt these dangerous chemical recycling facilities from New Jersey’s existing solid waste and recycling laws. The bill is currently pending in the NJ Legislature.
